How buying works: trial, plan and extra storage

How buying works in the Eagle 3D Streaming Control Panel: what the free trial lets you do, what it does not, and what you pay — today and on your next bill — when you add storage to a Core Plan. One example, in dollars, from start to finish.

1. The free trial: try first, buy nothing

What the trial includes, and what it cannot do yet

A new account starts on the free trial. No payment card is needed. The trial comes with 60 streaming minutes, 5 GB of storage for your builds and one stream at a time — the full list is on Plans and billing.

During the trial you cannot buy anything on its own. Extra storage, extra minutes and more streams at once are all sold as additions to a plan. Pressing Add more storage on a trial account takes you to the Plans page.

2. Your plan's billing day

Every month starts on the day you bought, not on the 1st

The Core Plan costs $29 a month. It is billed on the day you buy it, and then on that same day every month. Not on the 1st of the month.

Say you buy the Core Plan on 15 April. You pay $29 that day, and the next bills come on 15 May, 15 June, 15 July and so on. Each month of your plan runs from the 15th to the 15th. That day is your billing day, and the example below keeps it the whole way through.

3. Adding storage to your plan

Pay for the days left now, then one bill on your billing day

Storage costs $1 per GB a month, on top of what your plan includes. On 8 May you add 20 GB. Your plan's month runs from 15 April to 15 May, so there are 7 days left of a 30-day month.

  1. Today, 8 May: you pay only for the 20 GB, and only for the 7 days left. Step by step:
    • 1 GB for a whole month (30 days) costs $1.
    • So 1 GB for 1 day costs $1 ÷ 30 = $0.0333 (about 3 cents).
    • So 20 GB for 1 day costs 20 × $0.0333 = $0.667 (about 67 cents).
    • So 20 GB for the 7 days left costs 7 × $0.667 = $4.67.
    You pay $4.67 today.
  2. 15 May, your billing day: one bill for everything — the plan and the storage, each for a full month: $29 + $20 = $49.
  3. Every 15th after that: $49, until you change something.
15 April Core Plan bought: $29 8 May: 20 GB added $4.67 paid now for the 7 days left of 30 15 May: billing day one bill: plan $29 + storage $20 $49 15 June: billing day one bill: plan $29 + storage $20 $49
Storage added part-way through the month is paid for the days that are left, then joins the plan's bill on the billing day.

The storage is yours the moment you pay. It is charged to the card already on your plan — there is no second payment page. Stripe, the payment service, counts the time left to the second, so the real amount can be a few cents away from the round example above; the exact figure is on the invoice under Transactions.

4. Adding more storage later

Same rule: the extra, for the days left

Two months later you have 20 GB and need 50 GB. On 8 July you raise it by 30 GB. Your plan's month runs from 15 June to 15 July: again 7 days left of 30.

  1. Today, 8 July: only the extra 30 GB, for the 7 days left. Step by step:
    • 1 GB for 1 day costs $1 ÷ 30 = $0.0333, as before.
    • So 30 GB for 1 day costs 30 × $0.0333 = $1.00.
    • So 30 GB for the 7 days left costs 7 × $1.00 = $7.00.
You pay $7.00 today. The 20 GB you already had is already paid until the 15th, so it is not charged again.
  2. 15 July, your billing day: the new total for a full month: $29 + $50 = $79.

In general: you have X GB and add Y GB. Today you pay for Y, for the days left. From the next billing day you pay for X + Y, for the whole month, together with your plan.

5. Why it works this way

One storage amount, one date, one bill

The simple-looking alternative would be to charge a full month for the new Y GB on the day you add it. But then those Y GB would start their own month on 8 May, while your plan and your first X GB stay on the 15th. You would have two storage purchases with two billing days: two bills a month, two things to cancel, and a total that is hard to check against your bank statement. Every further increase would add another date.

So Eagle 3D Streaming keeps one storage amount on your account, billed with your plan on one billing day. When you add storage, the amount simply grows, and the few days before your billing day are charged separately, once, so the new total can start cleanly on that day. After that there is one bill a month with one number for storage in it.
