Pixel Streaming plugin versions

Epic ships two versions of the Pixel Streaming plugin. Which one you can use depends on your Unreal version and on whether your app needs to talk to the web page.

Which Pixel Streaming plugin should you use?

Almost always

Plugin 1

Works from Unreal 5.1 onwards, and it is the only one that supports communication between your app and the page. If you send data either way — and most integrations do — this is the only option.

Plugin 2

Only on Unreal 5.7 or newer, and only for plain playback. Choose it if your app is watched rather than talked to, and you specifically want Epic's newer architecture.

The question that decides it

Does your page send anything to your app, or receive anything from it? If yes, Plugin 1 — there is no version of Unreal where Plugin 2 supports that. If your app simply plays, and you are on 5.7 or newer, either works.
